J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Subaru vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Subaru above average in initial quality. With 13 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Subaru vehicles are more reliable than Toyota vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Subaru first in overall reliability. Toyota is ranked third.

The Uncharted’s standard electric motor produces 39 more horsepower (221 vs. 182) than the Mirai’s electric motor. The Uncharted Sport/GT’s standard electric motors produces 156 more horsepower (338 vs. 182) than the Mirai’s electric motor.

For better stopping power the Uncharted’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Mirai:

The Uncharted Sport/GT’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Mirai’s 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Uncharted Sport/GT has standard 20-inch wheels. The Mirai’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

For better maneuverability, the Uncharted’s turning circle is 2.4 feet tighter than the Mirai’s (36.1 feet vs. 38.5 feet).

The Uncharted is 1 foot, 6 inches shorter than the Mirai, making the Uncharted easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Uncharted uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Mirai doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Uncharted has .7 inches more front headroom, .8 inches more rear headroom and .3 inches more rear shoulder room than the Mirai.

The Uncharted’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The Mirai doesn’t offer folding rear seats.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the Uncharted has a standard power liftgate, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The Mirai doesn’t offer a power trunk.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Subaru service is better than Toyota. J.D. Power ranks Subaru third in service department satisfaction. With a 38% lower rating, Toyota is ranked 24th.

When two different drivers share the Uncharted Sport/GT, the memory seats and mirrors make it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position and outside mirror angle. The Mirai doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Uncharted’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Mirai doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Uncharted’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Mirai XLE’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Uncharted has a standard rear wiper. The Mirai doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Uncharted has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Mirai doesn’t offer headlight washers.

On extremely cold winter days, the Uncharted Sport/GT’s standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the vehicle heater warms up. The Mirai doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The Subaru Uncharted stands out above the Toyota Mirai by offering not one, but two Qi-compatible phone chargers. This convenience helps travelers with multiple devices to keep powered up on-the-go. Wireless charging eliminates lost or cluttered charging cables and one of them provide more flexibility.

The Uncharted has a 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Mirai doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
